THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK TO THE PAST Comic Gets a Beautiful Reprint
Back in January 1992, Nintendo began to publish a wonderful 12-part comic within the pages of the hugely popular NINTENDO POWER magazine based on the Super Nintendo video game THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK TO THE PAST. Written and illustrated by Shotaro Ishinomori, this adventurous tale follows a young Link as he dives head first into an epic story. While the book does follow the events of the game, it also adds a few elements and characters into the mix to keep things fresh and exciting for people familiar with the existing story in the game. The end result is a fun-filled adventure boasting some stunning art that really reflects the tone and style of the Manga boom in the 90′s. There are dozens of panels within I had to stop and admire and I’m sure anyone out there would do the same even just flipping through the pages.
Thankfully for fans, Viz Media has reprinted all 12 installments into one oversized softcover volume allowing fans to read and enjoy the story in its entirety. It really is a beautiful book to add to your collection and is a lot better than you may expect. The story is charming and has heart, the art is fantastic, and the overall sense of nostalgia for the glory days of the 90′s is immense and most welcome. As a huge Zelda fan myself, it brings me great joy to place this on my bookshelf at home and add it to my collection.
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK TO THE PAST TPB is out in stores now. Grab it while it’s hot in case we have to wait another 20+ years for it to get reprinted. It really is a stunning book you should get your Zelda-loving hands on.
