On Your Mark. Get Set. SECRET WARS!!

There are many many reasons to get in on the newest Marvel mini-series that kicks off this week with SECRET WARS #1. This event will change the entire Marvel Universe (both of them!) as we know it, it’s a great jumping-on point for new readers, and it’s dipping into just about every version of every character you have ever known or loved since you blew all your allowance at the comic shop as a wee little one. And come on, while it may all be a little confusing at the moment, you really want to know how this all unfolds right!? And Marvel keeps it nice and simple with their synopsis for this premiere issue revealing little yet making me thirst for more!

THE FINAL INCURSION IS HAPPENING! THE MARVEL UNIVERSE IS COLLIDING WITH THE ULTIMATE UNIVERSE! AND NEITHER WILL SURVIVE!

Dun dun dunnn! Sounds heavy. The silver lining with every big Marvel event is that the talent really comes in droves. The heavy-hitters of the comic-creating world gather up to entertain and please the masses. You know when the legendary Alex Ross shows up for cover art duty things are getting real. Add in writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Esad Ribic for the main 8-part mini-series (not including the FREE Comic Book Day #0 issue) and you’ve got yourself a party! Whoo-hoo!

Well there is one thing I need to get off my chest. How come an epic event involving each and every character in the Marvel Universe is dubbed “Secret” Wars? There is absolutely nothing “secret” about any of this. Just sayin’.

That said, you need to get your happy ass to the comic shop this week and jump into what will likely be a very controversial and epic story arc changing just about everyone and everything in the Marvel Universe for better or for worse. As long as at least one version of Cyclops makes it through the event unscathed I’ll be happy. I like my odds.
