OLD MAN LOGAN #1 (Again) This Week!
Have you ever wished for 2 #1 issues of OLD MAN LOGAN in less than a year!? If so, you are in for one hell of a treat because that’s exactly what you are getting!
The whole “Old Man” version of claw knuckles began back in 2010 from writer Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven within the pages of WOLVERINE (Vol. 3) #66-#72 and finally wrapped up in GIANT-SIZE OLD MAN LOGAN #1. Put simply…it was amazing and fans have been clamoring for more ever since. It was dark. It was edgy. And it put a fresh new (old?) spin on one of Marvel’s most overused characters. That’s an accomplishment if you ask me.
Then Mr. Secret Wars came a knockin’ and due to an often convoluted mess of a story we were given a new OLD MAN LOGAN 5-part mini-series from writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Andrea Sorrentino that revisited the character. It was kind of confusing revisiting a character with such a tragic history that now seemingly never happened. It kind of made the character feel less dynamic and cheap. Ok well THAT tragic history DID happen in his head but not in the current reality within the mini-series. So now he is a part of this new universe as he struggles with a past that technically never happened but it totally did…like I said…convoluted. Did I mention it was damn fun to read and the art was masterful!? That’s important too.
Basically, Marvel wanted the coolest versions of its coolest characters front and center after SECRET WARS. I’m cool with Old Man Logan clomping around as long as he keeps his filthy old man claws off that young ass Jean Grey…seriously…you can’t love her anymore you weirdo.
That said, OLD MAN LOGAN #1 is here again from writer Jeff Lemire and returning artist Andrea Sorrentino (yessssssssssss!). Check out what you can expect:
Fifty years from now, Logan – the man who no longer calls himself Wolverine – will have endured many atrocities: The Marvel Universe’s villains will have banded together and rid the world of its heroes. Logan’s closest friend, Hawkeye, will have been murdered in cold blood right before his eyes. And driven mad by the same radiation that gave him his superhuman strength, Bruce Banner will have fathered a family of hillbilly Hulks…that eventually went on to slaughter Logan’s wife and two children. But now, in the present, Old Man Logan wakes up to discover himself in a world before these atrocities, before the Wasteland. Ok, so this will likely be a detour from the Disney version of Old Man Logan we currently get in EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN and lean more towards the dark and edgy Wolverine we all love full of violent acts, poor decision making, and heavy drinking’ and a smokin’. I’m down with that.
OLD MAN LOGAN #1 lands this week so keep an eye out!
