Marvel’s SECRET WARS Finally Ends with #9...Maybe

Ok so the “maybe” in the title above is just the result of excess frustration due to this Marvel mini-series being delayed over and over long overstaying its welcome. To give you an idea, it started as an 8-part mini-series AND a lot of “post Secret Wars” titles have been gracing the comic shelves for quite some time now with some even at issue #6 by the time of this writing. Yeesh. Well, good news for all you true believers…the final issue is coming out THIS week for sure!

The big question is of course if anyone still cares. Do I care? Absolutely! Frustrating or not, SECRET WARS has been a damn fine book and I imagine reading all 9 issues back to back without all those pesky delays will be awesome. So far it’s had everything I love out of these huge mini-series event stories. It features a crap ton of A-List characters, writer Jonathan Hickman’s pacing is fast and fluid with frequent twists and turns that matter, Esad Ribic is in top form delivering some jaw-dropping art, and at the end of the day there are some MAJOR ramifications for the Marvel universe…BOTH of them! It’s good fun and I have enjoyed every issue so far.

Marvel hasn’t revealed much about the contents of this final #9 issue, but I think that’s a good sign and means there are likely some big happenings going on. Marvel’s own synopsis for this issue is simply “Genesis” promising an end to a fun series leading to a new beginning. It’s exciting times for fans and I for one am very hopeful that Hickman will end on a high note. Sure the man over complicates his stories at times, but he is a master storyteller who has a firm grip on the steering wheel.

SECRET WARS #9 is not to be missed when it hits shelves this week. Finally.
