A-FORCE #1 (Vol. 2) Arrives This Week
Once SECRET WARS #9 comes out later this month we can finally put to rest this messy and often confusing mini-series. It had oh so much promise, but delaying the finale TWICE and releasing the “post Secret Wars” titles prematurely was a big mistake on Marvel’s part and I fear they’ve lost a lot of readers in the process. The silver lining here is that there’ve been a handful of titles released under the “Secret Wars” banner that have been pretty great and kinda makes it all worth it in the long run. While WEIRDWORLD is easily my favorite of the bunch, A-FORCE was pretty great as well creating a pretty engaging story. Seems like Marvel agrees, because they are relaunching the title in a new on-going series starting this week with writer G. Willow Wilson and artist Jorge Molina at the helm.
A-FORCE was great because it pretty much featured all of Marvel’s female cast members living in a utopian city together under the care of She-Hulk and friends. Who needs men! In typical comic book form, evil lurked just around the corner and everything was challenged, battles ensued, and the light prevailed. We even got a cool new character in the form of Singularity. She’s mysterious, super powerful, and has a really cool design. She basically looks like space but in human form. Well it looks like she’s back and is getting the band back together. Here’s what, and whom, to expect.
A-FORCE, ASSEMBLE! From the ashes of Battleworld, Marvel’s newest hero SINGULARITY has risen and entered the Marvel Universe. But she didn’t make the journey alone. To combat the most fearsome threats from across the multiverse, Singularity will summon the world’s mightiest team of Avengers to her side: SHE-HULK. CAPTAIN MARVEL. DAZZLER. MEDUSA. NICO MINORU. Together, they are A FORCE to be reckoned with!
Yeah, I’m totally down with this. It’s great seeing Marvel highlight their female characters more over the years. Think about it, some of their finest books star strong and dynamic female heroes. MRS MARVEL, SPIDER-GWEN, THOR, and ALL-NEW WOLVERINE come to mind as just a few. It will be great having a team based comic out there to add to the mix! Look out for A-FORCE #1 this week!
