DARTH VADER #1 Marches onto Store Shelves

This week marks the release of Marvel’s second ongoing book DARTH VADER hot of the heels of STAR WARS #1 and #2 which have been met with mostly positive reviews. DARTH VADER takes place during the same timeframe as the new STAR WARS ongoing series directly after the events of A NEW HOPE. Let’s see what Marvel has to say about this premiere issue:

The original Dark Lord of the Sith stars in his first ongoing series! Ever since Darth Vader made his first on-screen appearance, he became the one of the most popular villains to ever haunt an audience’s dreams! Now, follow Vader straight from the ending of A NEW HOPE (and the pages of the new STAR WARS comic book) into his own series, showing the Empire’s war with the Rebel Alliance from the other side! Writer Kieron Gillen (Uncanny X-Men, Journey Into Mystery, Iron Man) and artist Salvador Larroca (Invincible Iron Man, X-Men: No More Humans) bring us a peek behind the mask of evil!

It’s pretty interesting having a light side story in STAR WARS focusing on our main heroes such as Luke and Han running parallel with a dark side story centering on the two most feared Sith in the galaxy. It’s going to be extremely interesting to see what Vader and The Emperor are up to during this unexplored (at least in the new canon) time frame especially after seeing their relationship in the prequels and THE CLONE WARS cartoon evolve in many interesting and dynamic ways.

At the end of the day Marvel has done it again. They’ve found yet another way to suck my wallet dry. The quality and treatment given to STAR WARS #1 and #2 proves that Marvel is taking this new venture very seriously. Here’s hoping DARTH VADER stays on my pull list for a long time to come. PRINCESS LEIA, you’re up next! Bring it on!
