STAR WARS: OBI-WAN & ANAKIN #1 Tackles Unexplored Territory This Week
I don’t care if you liked the prequel trilogy or not, and I don’t expect you to care that I loved them. But something we can all agree on is that Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker had a very interesting relationship that deserves some mining.
Enter Marvel’s latest Star Wars mini-series OBI-WAN & ANAKIN that explores the uncharted territory between THE PHANTOM MENACE and ATTACK OF THE CLONES. There were 10 long years between those two films and this new 5-part series takes place about 3 years after MENACE where Obi-Wan is fulfilling his promise to his late master Qui-Gon Jinn to train the “too old” youngling Anakin Skywalker in the ways of the force. There were surely a ton of adventures to be had before the Clone War broke out, and hopefully this new series will shed some light on this important time.
Before their military heroism in the Clone Wars, before their tragic battle on Mustafar, and many decades before their final confrontation on the Death Star…they were Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan learner, Anakin Skywalker. It’s been a few years since Obi-Wan pledged to train the young ‘chosen one,’ but even as they have grown closer through training, it has been a difficult road. Now, called to a remote planet for assistance, Master and Padawan may be pushed to the breaking point. Writer Charles Soule (Lando, She-Hulk, Daredevil) and artist Marco Checchetto (Star Wars: Shattered Empire, Avengers World, Punisher) bring us a tale of the Jedi at the height of their power…
Since THE FORCE AWAKENS seemed pretty dead set on ignoring the prequels, it’s refreshing to see Marvel tackle a book set in that part of the Star Wars timeline. The main reason I love the prequels so much is because Obi-Wan is by far my favorite Star Wars character, and his interactions with Anakin are among my favorite in the series…not to mention all the time I spent with the two in THE CLONE WARS cartoon series. So yeah, I’ve grown fond of these two battle buddies and would love to learn more about how Anakin got trained in the ways of the force.
