The Punisher Punishes This Week...A Lot!
If you have not seen Netflix’s DAREDEVIL Season 2 yet, you have no idea just how right he can work as a live-action character. Sorry Dolph. The Punisher in the current Marvel cinematic and TV universe is so damn cool, Netflix announced THIS week that he will get his very own spin-off series. Damn right! With two seasons of DAREDEVIL and one season of JESSICA JONES under our belt, I’m more than ready for the upcoming LUKE CAGE and IRON FIST projects all leading towards a DEFENDERS mini-series starring all the above! And now that the Punisher is tagging along, I think he will have a more solid presence in the universe as a whole and I’m just fine with that.
And of course when Marvel does something right with one of their characters on screen, they have to capitalize on it in the comicverse right!? Basically, there is no better time to kick off some new Punisher comics and starting this week we have 2 new ones in the form of a new ongoing series simply called PUNISHER as well as a new team-up story in the form of DAREDEVIL PUNISHER. Here’s what you can expect from each series:
PUNISHER #1
(Written by Becky Cloonan / Art by Steve Dillon )
FRANK CASTLE LOSES CONTROL! A by-the-numbers drug bust is about to take Frank Castle by surprise and he HATES surprises. The horrible fallout threatens to send The Punisher into the heart of darkness, but Castle won’t make that journey alone: A DEA agent is on his trail and attempting to get into his head…but what horrors will she find there, and will she survive the experience? First-time Punisher writer Becky Cloonan and quintessential Punisher artist Steve Dillon are forcing Frank Castle out of his comfort zone and taking him to the edge of the world he thought he knew!
DAREDEVIL PUNISHER #1
(Written by Charles Soule / Art by Szymon Kudranski )
A simple change of venues for one of Matt Murdock’s cases becomes more complicated when THE PUNISHER attempts to send the defendant away permanently! If DAREDEVIL and BLINDSPOT want to get this mobster his day in court, it will take every ounce of wit and wile they have. All Frank needs to get what he wants is a bullet. The race is on!
These books should more than tide you over until there is more on Netflix to gush over. And while you’re at it, catch up on Nathan Edmondson’s PUNISHER book that ran from 2014-2016. It was amazing and well worth the read for fans.
