SUPERGIRL Joins DC’s “Rebirth” Reboot This Week!

Supergirl is one of those DC characters that has been redone and rebooted more times than I can count. In all honesty, I don’t really know exactly what she’s all about besides living in the shadow of her cousin, the Man of Steel, and having similar powers and a familiar history. And I can’t say I’ve ever read an on-going series of hers. Basically, I’ve read her in crossover comics, I saw her soar in SMALLVILLE, and most recently I saw her kick some serious ass in SUPERGIRL Season 1. Besides that, I look forward to seeing her officially join The CW in season 2, and I can’t wait to see what writer Steve Orlando has in store for us starting with SUPERGIRL: REBIRTH #1 landing this week. And I have a feeling you are in a similar mindset.

Supergirl turns to the shadowy organization known as the D.E.O. (Department of Extranormal Operations) to restore her lost powers once and for all! But as a fateful experiment sends Kara Zor-El rocketing toward the sun, disaster strikes at home in the form of the lost Kryptonian werewolf Lar-On! All the epic action of the brand new Supergirl series starts here!

Supergirl is a tricky character to write at the moment because any iteration will likely be compared to the TV version. From what I’ve seen from this REBIRTH #1 issue so far, it looks like Orlando manages to create his own thing here, while familiar, not mirroring her TV counterpart too closely. And that can’t be easy living in an age where Tony Stark is basically Downey Jr. and Harley Quinn is looking more and more like Margot Robbie.

Either way, it’s great having Supergirl join the fray in this new DC “Rebirth” era. There is a lot of potential for an amazing book here and you would be wise to sniff it out at the shop this week with SUPERGIRL: REBIRTH #1.
