MAD MAX FURY ROAD Collected This Week
If you are anything like me, your heart is just now starting to slow to a normal beat after the awesomeness that was MAD MAX: FURY ROAD this past summer. Director George Miller took not only his franchise, but the action genre as a whole, to a new level. Naturally, if you were a huge fan of this newest film, you wanted to get your hands on anything and everything FURY ROAD related. Lucky for you, there was a 4-part comic book mini-series that explored important characters from the film including Immortal Joe, Nux, Furiosa, and of course Max. This week all issues are collected in a single volume for your enjoyment. Here’s an idea of what these books were all about:
In a fallen world ravaged by oil and water wars, humanity exists without law or mercy. All those who wander the Wasteland are ruled by a single imperative… survival! Among them is Max Rockatansky, a Road Warrior haunted by his turbulent past…“As the world fell, each of us in our own way was broken. It was hard to know who was more crazy…Me…or everyone else?!" The four stunning tales are collected in a single volume from the mind of George Miller, the creator of the Mad Max trilogy.
In these preludes to the film, witness the rise of a war hero turned tyrannical warlord known as the Immortan Joe, along with the story of one of his "War Boys,” the indomitable Nux. Plus, follow the journey of Furiosa, Immortan Joe’s most feared Imperator, and witness the cycle of violence and tragedy as the Road Warrior Max Rockatansky fights to rebuild his Interceptor - the vehicle that ensures his freedom! Finally, exclusively available in print for the first time, the tale of the mighty War Rig and the lives it claimed throughout its wild road battles!
While these 4 issues never quite reach the level of greatness the film did, they do provide some interesting backstory for the main cast of characters. The art across the board is serviceable but not spectacular, and some of the tales do fall a bit flat at times. That said, there are some interesting moments I will not spoil and are worth discovering on your own. As far as movie tie-ins go, there have been far worse (STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS) and much better (THE MATRIX).
