Could GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Be Marvel's Next Big Movie Franchise?
Marvel Studios has made it no secret that they have a movie in store for us by securing a May 16th 2014 release date for an upcoming project. Problem is, they won’t tell us what that film is just yet. Various sources including Bleeding Cool have recently discovered that Marvel has been snatching up trademarks for “Guardians of the Galaxy” that includes games, electronics, food, beverages and more. Of course Marvel has not officially announced anything just yet, but all signs point to this being their next main focus. I personally don’t think it’s too far fetched of a possibility considering what audiences saw at the end of this summer’s blockbuster hit THE AVENGERS. On top of that, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY could represent another rich team dynamic that was done so well in THE AVENGERS.
It is believed that the film version of GUARIANS OF THE GALAXY will be based on the much loved 2008 version of the team that ran 25 issues starting in 2008 and ending in 2010. It is also worth noting that the team has recently re-appeared in the current ongoing series AVENGERS ASSEMBLE #4 and has even received a slick toy treatment with Hasbro’s Marvel Universe team 4-pack.
THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2008 team story arc can be read in 4 collected trade paperback volumes covering all 25 issues and their story can be continued within the pages of the ongoing series AVENGERS ASSEMBLE #4 on store shelves now.
With the San Diego Comicon right around the corner, expect major announcements from Marvel Studios very soon.
