Catch Up with LAZARUS Volume 2
Image Comics has been putting out so many high quality titles these days that it’s near impossible to be caught up on everything worth reading. I often feel that LAZARUS is a title that gets lost in the shuffle and it most definitely deserves your attention!
Written by Greg Rucka with art by Michael Lark and Santi Arcas, LAZARUS is set in a not too distant dystopian future where wealthy families rule the land. Each family has a genetically enhanced “family warrior” called a Lazarus who is tasked with protecting the members and their land. Sound cool!? Yeah, I thought so.
The first collected volume (Issues #1-4) has been on store shelves for awhile with volume 2 (issues #5-9) hitting this week making it the perfect time to jump on in! Here’s what volume 2 has in store for those of you caught up:
While Forever keeps watch on her sister Johanna, she finds hints of rebellion brewing in LA. At the same time, the Barrets, a family of “Waste,” lose their home and land, and must pursue their only chance for a better life, a 500-mile journey to Denver in the hope that one of their family will be noticed by Carlyles and “lifted” to Serf status.
The universe set up in LAZARUS is fleshed out and intriguing. The characters are all interesting with a “who should I trust” vibe going for it. And the pacing and action is spot on making LAZARUS one of the best books currently out there. Do yourself a favor, and give this great title a chance. If I’m wrong, you can send your Lazarus after me.
