BLACK MAGICK #5 Ends the Stellar First Arc This Week!
I know, I know. SAGA is an amazingly great comic book. We’ve all heard! THE WALKING DEAD and INVINCIBLE are classic! Yeah, I get it. BLACK SCIENCE, LOW and DEADLY CLASS kick all kinds of ass! Thanks Remender! A friend said EAST OF WEST and PROPHET were great…and guess what!? They are! SEX CRIMINALS and SEX are…umm…sexy good!?…sex. Ohhh, ahhh, the water cooler is just buzzing with praise for the new PAPER GIRLS. I could go on…
Basically, Image Comics has it going on and sometimes books get a little lost in the shuffle of absolute awesomeness. Well, add Greg Rucka (writer) and Nicola Scott’s (artist) BLACK MAGICK to the list of freaking amazing books coming from Image these days. Trust me people, you want in on this book now while it’s still fresh. The story so far has been completely engrossing and fun. And I definitely sense more great things to come as this new on-going series continues. And did I mention they put out a super sweet magazine-sized issue of issue #1 that definitely deserves a look!? Here’s a lil’ synopsis from Image to paint a picture for you:
Rowan Black is a detective with the Portsmouth PD… and a witch, two aspects of her life she has struggled to keep separate. Now someone is targeting Rowan, someone who knows her secrets and means to expose her… or worse.
BLACK MAGICK just screams “passion project”. Rucka’s writing is fast, fluid, and fun constantly having the reader ask questions about this engrossing world. And Scott’s art is a damn grand slam if I ever saw one! If ever a book begged to rock the whole “black and white” aesthetic this one is it! And the attention to detail is staggering whether you are reading a facial expression or witnessing a feat of magic. Simply stunning. BLACK MAGICK bursts onto the comic scene as if it’s been locked away in a bottle for years just waiting to get out! Ya know…like a genie or something.
BLACK MAGICK #5 hits shelves this week ending the first story arc. It’s not too late to catch up on this series. All you have to do is get to your local comic shop, track down all the previous issues, and throw your money at the register! Ok, maybe don’t “throw” the money. Any self-respecting comic shop employee will agree that BLACK MAGICK is a good choice. Get to it already!
