ALL-NEW GHOST RIDER Blazes onto Comic Shelves!
I’ve always enjoyed the concept of GHOST RIDER. A supernatural antihero who makes a deal with the devil (or is it!?) to protect the ones he loves. Or something like that. Basically, once the rider is near evil, his head blows up in a glorious blaze of flame and he kicks a lot of ass. And really, does a concept really matter when you look so damn cool? Luckily, most Ghost Rider books I’ve read balance a cool story with some fun action and characters. And yes, I enjoy the movies…please don’t stop reading this now.
Enter ALL-NEW GHOST RIDER written by Felipe Smith with main art by Tradd Moore. A book that will lure in past fans by the title and fiery cover alone, but may surprise the uninitiated. This will not be the Ghost Rider book you are familiar with.
First off, this book stars an all new antihero by the name of Robbie Reyes. Never heard of him? Yeah, you and everyone else. Robbie is an all-new (hence the title) Ghost Rider who is a young East Los Angeles high school student who is into music and cars. And since we are talking about cars, you can maybe guess that that is his vehicle of choice rather than the typical motorcycle we have seen in the past. If the artwork above is any indication, the car’s transformation once Ghost Rider lights up looks pretty slick. Check out this synopsis for the first issue landing in stores this week:
‘ENGINES OF VENGEANCE’ PART 1 A street race leads a young man on the FAST and FURIOUS road of destiny. Amid an East Los Angeles neighborhood running wild with gang violence and drug trafficking, a war brews in the criminal underworld! With four on the floor, Marvel’s newest GHOST RIDER puts vengeance in overdrive!!!
Besides the lame FAST & FURIOUS reference, this book has definitely caught my attention. Smith seems to be cooking up an interesting story with a bold new character choice to house the Spirit of Vengeance. That coupled with the stunningly stylized artwork of Moore looks to be a surefire hit. Or at least worth a look at issue #1.
ALL-NEW GHOST RIDER #1 is available this week!
