THOR is a woman now...deal with it.

MARVEL is on a role these days releasing amazing books with female leads including the recent MS. MARVEL, STORM, and ELECTRA just to name a few. Well that trend is continuing this upcoming week with the release of THOR #1 starring an all new female THOR written by powerhouse Jason Aaron with art by Russell Dauterman. Don’t forget the stellar art above for the variant cover by Esad Ribic. So good.

Marvel is saying that this is not just a female version of Thor, say like She-Hulk is to Hulk, but rather THE new Thor. This mysterious woman will be wielding the legendary hammer Mjolnir after a series of unfortunate events prevents the original Thor to do so. Take a look at the synopsis for issue #1:

The great hammer MJOLNIR lies on the moon, unable to be lifted by anyone in all the heavens! Even THOR! Something dark has befallen the God of Thunder, leaving him weakened and for the first time in forever… UNWORTHY! But when Frost Giants invade the Earth, the hammer will be lifted and an all-new Thor will arise! A Thor unlike any we’ve ever seen before! Who is this new GODDESS OF THUNDER? Not even Odin knows! Since pretty much everything about this book, including just whom this new Thor is and how she fits into the Marvel Universe, is shrouded in mystery, only time (and reading issue #1) will give us the answers we seek. Aaron is a wonderfully talented and detailed writer who has proven himself time and time again, and Dauterman’s art in the recent CYCLOPS book has been killer making this team up very impressive. It’s a new dawn for THOR and it all starts here!
