The Original SHAOLIN COWBOY Collected! Go Get it!
For the uninitiated, Geof Darrow’s SHAOLIN COWBOY series is likely the best thing to happen to comics…ever. SHAOLIN COWBOY is a comic book series written and illustrated by the extremely talented Geof Darrow who seemingly puts everything he’s got into this series! It’s basically about an unnamed former Shaolin Monk who wanders the land as he is being pursued by bounty hunters and must show off his mad fighting skillz. And yes, I spelled that with a ‘z’ even though auto correct tried to stop me! But why you say!? Because it’s THAT good dammit! But the loose plot really doesn’t matter because the art in this book is going to knock your socks off and ruin all other comic books for you forever. Fair warning.
And just to set the record straight. The collected volume releasing this week titled SHAOLIN COWBOY reprints all 7 issues of the original series that started back in 2004. These issues have never been collected like this in America and finally gives fans a chance to see and read it all for an affordable price (for now). Here is a synopsis of what you can expect from Burleyman Entertainment:
After fighting demons, sharks, and maniacal crustaceans, the Shaolin Cowboy battles his way to this harrowing collection which includes the entire buffet from his first extended Burlyman run. In this overstuffed volume, the Cowboy continues his trip across the pockmarked landscape of the American psyche. You’ll want to see the Cowboy confront his nemesis, King Crab, grapple hand to fin with a Great White, and dance with an army of the Undead! Plus, an abundance of extras, showcasing all the alternative covers with art by such peerless luminaries as Moebius (Jean Giraud), Mike Mignola, Kevin Nowlan, Ricardo Delgado, Scott Gustafson, and John Severin.
Holy wow Batman that’s a lot of previously uncollected content all in one book! This will truly be a treat to anyone who stumbles across it. And in the not too distant future, there will be a Hardcover collection of the most recent SHAOLIN COWBOY series from Dark Horse. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. First go get caught up on what will likely be one of the most beautiful books at your local comic book shop this holiday season! Go get one already!
