THE AGE OF ULTRON Will Be Marvel's First Big Event of 2013

Just as the dust beings to settle from last summer’s big event AVENGERS VS X-MEN, Marvel is already hard at work on their next major event titled THE AGE OF ULTRON.

The event has seemingly been in the preparation phase for quite some time with hints of what’s to come in titles such as MIGHTY AVENGERS and MOON KNIGHT. Well, Marvel has heated things up and officially announced the project along with a few images (above) to keep fans happy. THE AGE OF ULTRON 10-part miniseries can be expected to commence in March 2013 wrapping things up by June 2012. Sound quick? Well, it is and Marvel will do what they did with their last major event and issue multiple installments per month. Expect 2-3 per month.

The project will be written by Brian Michael Bendis with issues 1-5 being drawn by Brian Hitch and 6-10 being drawn by Brandon Peterson and Carlos Pacheco. Here is what Bendis himself had to say about the project at a recent event:

“Ultron, who is one of our biggest villains, finally fulfills his destiny, which is to accelerate his super-intelligence and does what he always wanted to do, which is take control of earth. And he does. From the very first page, the Marvel Universe has been overtaken by Ultron. It has been changed. It has been altered. There have been shocking amounts of death and devastation and casualties in the Marvel Universe.”

Soundspretty fun to me. It is also worth noting that this IS a part of the current MARVEL NOW! universe and will hopefully seamlessly take place in conjunction with other stories. My hope is that the effects of this world-changing event will actually echo through the other comics instead of being brushed over. Only time will tell.

Look for THE AGE OF ULTRON #1 in stored March 2013
