Scott Summers Gets his Very Own On-Going in CYCLOPS #1

Anyone who knows me (or has read almost anything I have written) could have guessed I would write about the upcoming ALL-NEW MARVEL NOW! title CYCLOPS #1 written by Greg Rucka with art by Russell Dauterman. I’m predictable.

While this IS technically the first time Cyclops has received his very own on-going series (mini-series’ not included), it’s kind of wonky in the sense that it does not feature the “current timeline” Cyclops, but rather the 16-year old “Time Displaced” Cyclops that was birthed out of the pages of ALL-NEW X-MEN. Phew, ya with me? My point is, while I am ecstatic about this comic, it just feels a bit off. But what does this Cyclops fan really have to complain about? NOTHING, because I get 2 Cyclops’ (Cyclopti?) for the price of one! The dude is everywhere these days and literally in 2 places at once! So cool!

To clear things up a bit. Let’s take a look at the official plot synopsis for this on-going book below.

Cyclops just discovered that the father he thought died long ago is alive and well and A SPACE PIRATE. Spinning directly out of ALL-NEW X-MEN, comes the first ongoing solo series for one of the time-traveling Original X-Men. After the events of “Trial of Jean Grey”, Scott Summers stays in space to learn some valuable lessons from his dad: 1) How to shave, 2) How to talk to girls, 3) How to steal a Badoon space-ship.

Man I can’t wait to gobble this one up and then read it all over again. The last story arc in ALL-NEW X-MEN “The Trial of Jean Grey” was simply fantastic and it will be fun to see a new creative team handle this version of Cyclops moving forward. I have faith in the creative team here and all signs point to this being an optic blast! I had to….
