Scott Snyder and Jim Lee's New Book SUPERMAN UNCHAINED Revealed

Last year at the 2012 New York Comic Con it was announced that writer Scott Snyder (BATMAN) and artist Jim Lee (X-MEN) would be teaming up for a new ongoing Superman book. Little has been revealed for the highly anticipated project and fans have been waiting patiently for any new information. USA Today recently broke news that the title will be called SUPERMAN UNCHAINED and will be hitting store shelves on June 12th 2013 which is just 2 days before the release of this summer’s blockbuster event MAN OF STEEL.

Fans should be excited to see Snyder’s take on the character especially since he has been doing one hell of a fine job at DC already with the newest BATMAN book along with SWAMP THING. And artist Jim Lee assures fans that this new title will have something for everyone saying “We’ve been pushing the creators to not be beholden to the past conceits and understandings” of Superman, he adds. “So we will speak to a new generation of readers." Snyder add his two cents by saying "The way to approach a character as iconic as him is you just come at it from a standpoint of what you love the most about the character, and then write a story that explores that, tear it down and build it back up.”

Personally, I enjoy Superman books that go off the beaten path a bit rather than having to fit into the canon of the main running universe. Sure this one will technically be in the current timeline, but it appears as if the creators are interested in doing their own thing here. Some of my favorite Supes titles that come to mind are ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, SUPERMAN BIRTHRIGHT, and the newer SUPERMAN EARTH ONE. They are all fun and fresh takes on the character that stay true to the spirit of the franchise. Let’s hope that I will be able to add SUPERMAN UNCHAINED to that list this summer.

You can check out the entire article over at USA Today, and stay tuned for more details as the emerge.
