Pickles Labrador was thrown overboard when born at sea. Adopted and raised by squid, she learned about color and visual communication from the intelligent aquatic life. As soon as she could hold a brush, she was painting. Pickles adolescence was a tough time and she began to feel she didn’t fit in with the other squid, so she packed her bags and moved above water to the big city. Now on her fifth year breathing from the atmosphere, Pickles is very proud to show her work at Mission: Comics & Art. She is grateful for all that the squid gave her and dedicates this show to her adoptive family.

Kate Kellams’s current collages work weaves together images from classic medical texts, vintage sewing-pattern illustrations and luscious, left-over scraps of wallpaper to form a shiny world of dream and fantasy. In this world beauty and gender are fluid, and changelings abound. Kate previously taught second grade at a local elementary school. She is currently becoming a psychotherapist.
