Iris Charabi-Berggren’s work plays with the ‘Drama of the World.’ Addressing her fascination with human behavior and power dynamics through specific topics such as: games, relationships, natural disasters/war and mundane activities. Her characters are allegorical, but we can see ourselves in them as they portray the drama, humor and fallacy of real life role-play. They embody life’s paradoxes by being funny as well as tragic, violent as well as tender, determined as well as helpless.
In CATCH ME IF YOU CAN Charabi-Berggren considers the subject of role-playing and power dynamics through games. The games invite the viewers to participate physically by punching or playing darts. Although the interactive installations are packed with sensorial fun, a sense of wonderment and visual stimulation the works conceptual underlying references are to the darker side of the human psyche, as seen in famous role playing experiments such as the Stanford prison experiment and the Milgram experiment.
