Mouse Guard

Mouse Guard is an Eisner Award Winning comic book series written and illustrated by David Petersen. The adventure started as a mini series and is a real success story. They are now available and collected into hardcover volumes, published by Archaia.

Here is the publisher synopsis:

“In Mouse Guard, mice struggle to live safely and prosper among all of the world’s harsh conditions and predators. Thus the Mouse Guard was formed. They are not simply soldiers that fight off intruders; rather, they are guides for common mice looking to journey without confrontation from one hidden mouse village to another. The Guard patrol borders, find safeways and paths through dangerous territories and treacherous terrain, watch weather patterns, and keep the mouse territories free of predatory infestation. They do so with fearless dedication so that they might not just exist, but truly live.”

David Peterson has perfectly combined in his books his love of animal stories and medieval role-playing. The arts are wonderful, and this is a very cute and imaginative story as deep in the universe as the Games of Thrones.

These are wonderful tales and it could be how mice live and spend their days, with a little of imagination, or kid eyes. It is a perfect all-age story with enough complexity to be an adult favorite series and which remain very attractive for kids with a lot of imagination.

David Peterson creates a whole universe, with different groups and location (that you can follow on maps in the books). Even the song in the books have been really realized, and you can find these music  on the very well-down and interactive Mouse Guard’s website: http://www.mouseguard.net/. On this website you can even download and print your own Finger puppet kit or paper craft kit. Also a role-playing game had been created.
