Marvel’s BLACK VORTEX Concludes This Week
Marvel’s big 12-part X-MEN and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY crossover mini-series is coming to an end this week with the release of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY AND X-MEN BLACK VORTEX OMEGA #1 from writer Sam Humphries and artist Ed McGuinness. Even though this is a one-shot that will conclude the mini-series, Marvel still has the gumption to call it a #1 issue. I guess that’s what sells…sigh. Basically this is issue #12 of a twelve part mini-series that has seen the X-Men and Guardians fight over an ancient artifact that bestows its victims with god-like power…if that smells a lot like the AVENGERS VS X-MEN arc that came out a few years ago you’ve got a good nose.
Here’s what fans can expect from this final chapter:
Guardians Of The Galaxy And X-Men Black Vortex Omega #1
THE BLACK VORTEX ENDS HERE! When an entire planet, and potentially the entire galaxy, is caught in the crosshairs of Knife’s cosmically empowered forces, the Guardians and the X-Men face their final test. With billions of lives at stake, our heroes are forced to make the ultimate sacrifice. But in gaining the power to potentially defeat Knife, by submitting to the Black Vortex, could they have given up their humanity forever?
While I have enjoyed this mini-series to a degree, it just feels all too familiar in our current Marvel universe and with the epic SECRET WARS event just around the corner it all feels a bit moot. In any case, I’ll be curious to see how it all ends and if any ramifications will carry over into SECRET WARS.
