Hickman's Avengers Roster Revealed...Kindof

With the Marvel Summer event AVENGERS VS X-MEN coming to a close, it’s time to gear up for another Avengers relaunch! While one wold think that this would be a great time to refocus and possibly make the team a bit smaller, instead what we get is a large overcrowded roster that will likely settle down in the 20’s…yeesh. The new Avengers book is set to launch later this year and it looks like the team will be pretty different than what we saw before this summer.

I suppose if you are looking for a smaller, more intimate cast you could look towards UNCANNY AVENGERS or AVENGERS ASSEMBLE. However, if you want scale, Jonathan Hickman will have you covered. Marvel has finally shed some light, and cover art, for the upcoming Avengers relaunch and I must admit that there are a number of inspired choices for teammates. Here is a rundown of what we have so far:

Captain America, Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), Wolverine (again, yeesh), Hulk, Cannonball, Black Widow, Thor, Sunspot (really?), The Falcon, Iron Man, Spider-Woman, Spider-Man, and a mysterious shadowed figure that is sure to be revealed within the pages of the first 3 issues.

Wow, very interesting Mr. Hickman. It is also worth noting that this is not the final lineup. Hickman told fans via Twitter that the cover images above does not reflect the complete roster and that he intentionally left off some characters to avoid spoilers. He also said that he had at least 8 new characters to add making the total closer to 22-24.

It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds and if Hickman and team can really pull this off without being too watered down. we are just going to have to wait until later this year when the Marvel Now! relaunch officially begins.
