HARLEY QUINN Gets the “Rebirth” Treatment This Week!
There’s no denying how popular Harley Quinn is at the moment. Sure being featured in SUICIDE SQUAD (out this week!) is boosting her a appeal, but she’s been considered a “fan favorite” for a very long time. Anyone who’s been to any kind of comic book convention in the past 10-20 years knows exactly what I’m talking about. She first appeared in BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES back in 1992 from creators Paul Dini and Bruce Timm and had such an impact that she’s been a mainstay in the DC Universe ever since.
More recently, Harley had a pretty epic run during DC’s “New 52″ era with her ongoing book simply called HARLEY QUINN from writer Jimmy Palmiotti and artist Chad Hardin. And now that “DC Rebirth” is here rebooting everything, it’s time to start back at #1 again. Seems like DC knows a good thing when they have it and aren’t really changing a whole lot for our clown princess other than the numbering. Co-writer Amanda Conner teams up with Palmiotti and Hardin to deliver more Quinn goodness in a new arc dubbed “Afterbirth” lightheartedly poking fun at the term “Rebirth” being slapped on the cover of just about every DC book these days.
“Die Laughing” part one! Welcome back to Harley Quinn’s crazy world on Coney Island…now get ready to wave goodbye, because everyone there just might get eaten alive! Harley’s gotta protect her neighborhood against an all-out zombie apocalypse! Break out the chainsaws, everybody!
At the end of the day does it really matter that everything gets reset back to #1 again? Does it really matter that “New 52″ is replaced with “Rebirth” on the cover? No, not really. A good story, featuring good art, starring your favorite character should be good enough for anyone. So yeah, HARLEY QUINN #1 just so happens to be gracing store shelves this week. Go see SUICIDE SQUAD, and go get the comic already. And re-watch the animated series. It’s still amazing.
