GENERATION X Returns!

The original GENERATION X comic was born in the mid 1990′s spanning 75 issues until it was finally cancelled in 2001. And since then, no proper reboot has happened, that is, until now. Yes, GENERATION X is back and original member Jubilee is serving as team leader. Oh, and for those not keeping score at home, she’s also a vampire and has a kid. Maybe her vampirism has been cured by now? I don’t remember, Does it matter? Is it her kid? I don’t know.

The Xavier Institute for Mutant Education and Outreach has opened its doors and is ready to foster the next generation of heroes and diplomats! But this time around, the X-Men recognize an unfortunate truth: not all mutants are created equal. Some mutants are not made to fight Sentinels or serve as ambassadors on behalf of their kind. Some mutants will just be lucky to survive another day in a world that hates and fears them. And who better to mentor mutantkind’s lovable losers than perpetual sidekick Jubilee? But will Jubilee and GENERATION X survive the experience??

While I don’t consider myself a huge Jubilee fan, I do think it’s cool putting her front and center like this. It will be interesting seeing her lead a team of youngsters. It will be equally cool to see if any of the original GENERATION X team members will show up. I’m especially curious to see if Emma Frost will come out of the shadows after the tragic demise of her lover Cyclops. I have a feeling this book is going to help reintroduce Frost in the near future. Should be interesting.

And it’s worth mentioning that the new slate of X-books have been pretty enjoyable compared to what we’ve seen since the conclusion of SECRET WARS. If you want a good jumping-on point for X-MEN, I can recommend the X-MEN GOLD, X-MEN BLUE, and JEAN GREY ongoings. They are all still fresh enough to easily catch up.
