EAST OF WEST Volume 2 Collection Is Here!
I suppose I can’t really tell you how to spend that hard earned cash you have, buuuuuuuut if you happen to be in a comic book store and have 10 bucks (and change for tax of course) flopping around in your pocket, I sure as hell can point you in the right direction. That direction will almost assuredly lead you to an Image Comics volume 1 trade paperback for $9.99. If you were standing next to me right now I would forward your attention to a new love of mine in the form of EAST OF WEST written by Jonathan Hickman with art by Nick Dragotta. And you would thank me.
In a nutshell, EAST OF WEST is a science fiction western set in a dystopian future United States where the fate of what’s left is in the hands of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. And yeah, apocalypse is a fancy-schmancy word for ‘end of the world’.
EAST OF WEST, in my humble opinion, is Hickman at his best. Sure a lot of you out there may be loving his take on a number of AVENGERS titles for Marvel, but this book really comes off as more of a passion project for the creator. Every inch of this book is just oozing with interesting characters, fantastical locals, and a fair share of 'oh shit that just happened’ moments. There is a lot of focus and energy in Hickman’s words that will keep you flipping the page until the very end. And the cherry on top is Dragotta’s wonderful and complimentary art and style. These two creators working together is a sight to behold. I’m a fan.
The good news is (as mentioned above) you can get volume 1 (Issues #1-5) for the low price of $9.99 and pretty much be caught up. Before you leave the store this week, do yourself a favor and add volume #2 on top since I can almost guarantee this will be the book for you. But hey, if you don’t want to listen to me and play it safe by picking up both volumes at once, prepare to have me point my finger at you and laugh when you come back the same day for volume 2.
