DEADLY CLASS Volume 1 is in Session!

If that beautiful cover art above for Image Comics’ DEADLY CLASS doesn’t get you interested in this series, I just don’t know about you. Writer Rick Remender (BLACK SCIENCE) continues to dominate the comic book world alongside art by Wesley Craig and Lee Loughridge.

It’s 1987. Marcus Lopez hates school. His grades suck. The jocks are hassling his friends. He can’t focus in class. But the jocks are the children of Joseph Stalin’s top assassin, the teachers are members of an ancient league of assassins, the class he’s failing is “Dismemberment 101,” and his crush has a double-digit body count. Welcome to the most brutal high school on earth, where the world’s top crime families send the next generation of assassins to be trained. Murder is an art. Killing is a craft. At Kings Dominion School for the Deadly Arts, the dagger in your back isn’t always metaphorical.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t sold after reading the first issue alone. To me, the feel and general premise echoes classics such as HARRY POTTER, X-MEN, and THE MATRIX a little too much to give the series any credit for being all that original. However, after reading the first 6 issues, the series is getting a bit more of a personal identity and is well worth the read. And to be honest, the dazzling art got me to continuously buy this book and is well worth the price of admission alone.

I think reading all 6 issues back to back in trade format really compliments this book. It reads a lot better that way. And lucky for you, you can get all 6 issues in a fancy-pantsy trade paperback collection for just $9.99 and be completely caught up with the series. Like the 80’s? Like San Francisco? Like beautiful and creative art? Like teenagers learning how to murder and kill efficiently at a school run by the deadliest of assassins? If you answered “yes” to any or all of those questions, get your happy comic book reading behind to your nearest comic shop and see what all the fuss is about with DEADLY CLASS Volume 1: REAGAN YOUTH out now!
