DC’s NEW SUPER-MAN #1 Offers Something Different
Tired of DC cramming nostalgia down our throats with their new “Rebirth” titles? I’m not! The current crop of DC Universe comics are basically turning into something we all want to read and has built a great momentum. It’s familiar. It’s iconic. And it’s working. DC’s newest slate has been pretty fantastic so far easily welcoming newcomers and veterans alike. I’d say my only real nitpick so far is that they are playing it super safe and not throwing unique and experimental stories our way. Well, that seems to be changing with the arrival of NEW SUPER-MAN I suppose. This looks pretty unfamiliar to me.

I like the idea of super hero teams forming in other countries. I mean, all the baddies can’t just be going after good old America right? So having a new superhero crop up in China is a fresh idea. And it sounds like a new Justice League will be forming with this “New” Super-Man. Did I mention he’s Chinese and kind of a bully? Clark Kent he is not. This story comes hot off the heels of the recent Superman story arcs and will hopefully cement a Chinese hero into the mix similar to what Marvel has done with The Hulk lately. Sounds cool to me! I like that he is not just another goody goody and has some humanity in him! My best advice to you is to not approach this new book like it’s basically just the Superman we are use to but Chinese like the cover art implies. This looks like something pretty unique and a fun new way to experience the “Rebirth” of DC.
