Cliff Chiang’s Wonder Woman

Cliff Chiang, working with Brian K. Vaughan, released the new Image series Paper Girls. However, he is also known for many other works–most notably his contribution as the illustrator for DC’s Wonder Woman. Teaming-up with Brian Azzarello, he channelled his refreshingly unique aesthetic and impressive portfolio by breathing life into this older comic series.

Cliff Chiang, one of the most well-known and best respected artists in the industry, did not just start illustrating Wonder Woman for this 2014 reboot, but rather started back in 2001 near the beginning of his professional career. He first worked with Wonder Woman along with Phil Jimenez and Jamal Igle for the Justice League of America series “Our Worlds at War.”

After that, he worked on a variety of other series (creating quite a long list on Wikipedia). He’s contributed to Batman, Green Arrow, and Supergirl amongst other comics. Paper Girls is also not the first project where he collaborated with Brian K. Vaughan–a small part for the series Swamp Thing.

Recently, along with Brian Azzarello, they revitalized the Wonder Woman storyline in multiple ways. Most notably, they have channeled back to Wonder Woman’s existential origins in Greek Mythology (with an especially strong connection to Zeus).

And now with his new series, Paper Girls, Cliff Chiang may seem like he is stepping away from his superhero propensities; however, Paper Girls is still a comic about the hero in a sense–4 girls who stand together to fight something extraordinary. So, stop by and check this new comic out before the second issue is released!
